Shanghai: Part 2
I have been getting settled into my life here in Shanghai, getting plugged into church community and settling into the routine of school, work, community and exploration. It’s been a whirlwind of school events such as cooking show/karaoke night and mahjong nights, church community events like rock climbing (I finally made it to the top of a wall, about 15 meters off the ground) and lots of eating in tiny hole-in-the-wall restaurants.
Kenrick’s (the leader of my small group) birthday party was a blast; we met up at a hotpot restaurant, with the stipulation that everyone needed to come in some kind of costume. The food and costumes weren’t even the best part though, it was the four-year-old Chinese girl who heard us singing “Happy Birthday” and spontaneously decided to come in, offer her stuffed animal to Kenrick as a birthday present, and even sang him a little song.
Someday, I hope to be able to speak Chinese as well as that tiny human does.
